Donna Rae Roberts, age 75 of Juda, died on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at the Billings Hospital in Billings, Montana. She had emergency open heart surgery and was unable to recover. She had traveled to Wyoming to attend the funeral of her only grandson, Neil, and became ill.
Donna was born May 12, 1934 in Monroe and graduated from Monroe High School in 1952. She still enjoyed close relationships with a group of her classmates that were her "friends for life." Donna married Thomas Roberts on March 10, 1956 and had one daughter, Toni. They lived in the Monroe area most of their lives.
Donna had been a bookkeeper for many years at Hughes Mobile Homes in Monroe. She had worked for Age Advantage in Madison for many years before her retirement.
Donna was at home on a farm in Juda surrounded by her many beloved pets. She still had horses, dogs, and a few cats that she took the most loving care of. They were the joy of her life. She raised and sold Schnauzer puppies for the last five years and made sure each one went to a loving, caring home. She made many friends through the sales of her puppies.
Donna loved horses and spent her younger years riding and going to horse shows. She enjoyed trips to Wyoming to visit her daughter and taking trail rides through the mountains she loved. She had a wonderful relationship with her grandson, Neil, who was killed in an automobile accident one week before her death. There is no doubt they are together now watching over us. Mom, I will miss our morning phone calls and the sweet sound of your voice.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Toni (Bill) Adkins of Cody, Wyoming; a niece, Brenda Moritz; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas on Aug. 4, 2006; and her brother, David Moritz.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2009, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Juda. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund is being established in Donna's name to benefit animal rescue. Contributions may be made in her name at Amcore Bank, Monroe.
