Dennis E. Halvorson, age 65, of Monticello, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at his home of heart failure. He was born on June 29, 1952 in Monroe, the son of Herman and Jean (Brecklin) Halvorson. Dennis was a 1970 graduate of Monroe High School.

He spent many years as an over the road semi driver, but was currently employed at Preferred Transit. He was also a long-time bartender, most recently at Rathskeller in Monticello.

He was one of the top supporters of Campions Champions, a member of Ducks Unlimited, enjoyed playing cards, pool league, and golfing with friends and family. His biggest joy was having breakfast with his grandchildren on Sunday mornings.

He is survived by his fiance Sandy Schaller of Monticello; children: Aaron (Ashley Matthias) Halvorson, Casey Halvorson, and Dayna (Derek) Steinhorst; grandchildren: Aurora Halvorson, Deacon Steinhorst, and Deklin Halvorson; brother, Dick (Karen) Halvorson and Randy Halvorson; Sandy's children: Clark Schaller, Karlie Schaller, Sydnee Schaller, Zachary Schaller and her grandchildren: Cayden Bezik and Aria Neulman.

He is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jaye Pharo, his parents, and his brother, Ronnie.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE funeral home in Monroe, with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery, in Wiota.

Visitation is Friday, March 2nd from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home

A Memorial fund is being established in Dennis memory.
