Delmar W. Marty, age 85 of Monroe, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at his home. He was born September 26, 1924 in Mt. Pleasant Township, Green County, the son of Walter and Barbara (Klassy) Marty and graduated from Belleville High School in 1941.

Delmar married Ruth Saaf on June 4, 1947 at Swiss Church in Belleville and she preceded him in death. He then married Grace Guldhaug Roth on May 9, 1987 at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe. Delmar lived in Sun Prairie for 15 years, Janesville for 24 years, and then moved to Monroe. He worked at General Motors in Janesville for many years as a carpenter, was an expert gardener, and loved the outdoors.

Delmar was a member of Sun Prairie Masonic Lodge #143 since 1962, UAW #95 in Janesville, Wednesday night business men's golf league, Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe - serving six years on the Church Council, and currently was a member of Jordan Lutheran Church - serving on the Church Council. He was an avid sports fan following UW Madison sports, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and gardening.

Surviving are his wife, Grace Marty of Monroe, WI; children, Joyce (Terry) Carroll of Dodgeville, WI, Bonnie (Richard) Merwin of Granite Bay, CA, Walter (Susan) Marty of Colorado Spring, CO, and Nancy (James) Davis of Palmer, AK; brothers, Leon (Margaret) Marty of Madison, WI and Donald (Lori) Marty of Middleton, WI; 7 grandchildren, Sandra (Scott) Recob of Dodgeville, WI, William (Diane) Carroll of Dodgeville, WI, Jennifer (Shawn) Phillips of Linden, WI, Blake (Allison) Merwin of Gig Harbor, WA, Brenden (Emily) Merwin of Granite Bay, CA, Patricia Marty and Christopher Marty of Colorado Springs, CO; 5 great-grandchildren, Jacob Recob, Joey Recob, Shianne Carroll, Shane Carroll, and Kelsey Phillips; 4 step-children, Greg (Debbie) Roth of Albany, WI, Audrey (Gene) Luchsinger of Monticello, WI, Kevin Roth of Monroe, WI, and Pam (Jim) Schultz of Belleville, WI; 8 step-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Ruth Marty; and brother, Earl Marty.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Belleville, WI Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Masonic Services at 7:15 p.m.

A Memorial fund is being established in Delmar's memory.
