David W. Putnam, age 88, of Monroe, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born on May 10, 1927 in Argyle, the son of Charles and Ethel (Stixrood) Putnam.

David and Darlyne Lewis were married on September 27, 1953 in Monroe.

David served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952.

David owned and operated the Pecatonica Oil Company from 1959-1984. He later worked as a maintenance man for the St. Clare Hospital and Monroe Park and Recreational Department.

He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, former member of the Monroe Moose, American Legion, VFW and the Monroe and South Wayne Fire Department.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with family.

He is survived by his children: Diane (Tom) Dunn of Freeport, IL; Dorene (Lyle) Beck of Polo, IL; Donna (Steve) Vanderheyden Stockton, IL; Dawn (Bob) Matson of Adams Friendship, WI; grandchildren: Michael, Kristen, Harley (Amanda), Alexandria (Ward), Stephanie, and Jesse; step-grandchildren: Jennica and Janessa; great-grandchildren: David, Andria, Harley Clayton, Emily, Kennedy, Ward III, Braydon, and Yachura.

He was predeceased by his parents, wife, grandson, Andrew Lancaster, brothers, Arthur, Charles and Robert; sisters, Charlene Durtschi, Carol McWilliams and Sandy Linnerud.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive and 18th Ave., with Reverend Jesse Larson officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Argyle.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
