FREEPORT - David L. Penniston, 74, of Freeport, died Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Freeport Rehabilitation & Care Center in Freeport.

Born April 3, 1940 in Monroe, Wisconsin he was the son of Harold and Ruth (Gille) Penniston. He married Audrey Wuethrich January 17, 1959. They had three children together. After 21 years their marriage ended.

He was a veteran of the Wisconsin National Guard.

David worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for 33 years. He was a Brakeman and Conductor. He was the Conductor on the last passenger train through Freeport.

An avid Packer fan he enjoyed Fishing, mushroom hunting and Deer hunting with his son.

Surviving is his mother, Ruth Penniston of Freeport; his children, Keith Penniston and Todd (Tonya) Penniston both of Freeport, Laurie (Brian) Mueller of Lena; 1 grandson, Dylan Penniston; his sisters, Norma (Herb) Miller of Rockford, and Jan Wilkening of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his brother, James Penniston of Freeport; and his former wife, Audrey (Wuethrich) (Penniston) Fetterman of Lena.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and father, Harold.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

There will be no funeral service.

A memorial fund has been established in his name. Memorials may be sent in care of Walker Mortuary, 321 W. Main, Freeport, Illinois, 61032.
