NEW GLARUS - Mr. Daniel Earl Ringhand, age 84, of New Glarus, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 25, 2009. He was born on April 17, 1924 to his parents Charles and Estella Ringhand. Dan graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1942. On April 3, 1952 he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Holcomb Spring at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. Dan farmed and then worked for the Pet Milk Company in New Glarus and Sears Roebuck Company in Madison; he then retired from General Motors Assembly Division in Janesville after 30 years. He was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus. Dan enjoyed bowling, golfing, and growing African Violets. He was also a former member of the New Glarus Lions Club.

Dan is survived by his sons: Duane (Donna) Spring of Oregon, WI and Dwight (Sandra) Spring of Belleville, WI; daughters Beverly (Milton) Babler of Monticello, WI and Debbi (Dave) Johnson of Eau Claire, WI; eight grandchildren: Shane Spring, Dawn Dyjach, Steve Babler, Fritz Babler, Scott Babler, Angela Anderson, Brenda Spring, and Mark Spring; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law: Glorene Ringhand of Madison, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth in 1988, brothers Charles "Bob" Ringhand Jr. and Maurice Ringhand, and Carroll Ringhand.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. John Jewell officiating with burial to follow in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from noon until time of service on Thursday at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home.
