City of Monroe Common Council: June 2, 2009

MONROE - During a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Set a public hearing date of June 16 for an ordinance repealing and recreating Chapter 4 of Title 3 of the Monroe City Code: Alcohol Beverages. The ordinance cleans up definitions and numberings and updates the code with recent ordinances, including the number of licenses available and nude exhibitionism, passed by council in recent months.

• Held a public hearing and passed unanimously an ordinance rezoning property No. 141 from M-1 (light industrial) to R-3 (multiple-family).

• Unanimously approved for payment claims in the amount of $197,054.96.

• Unanimously approved changes to Farmer's Market locations due to construction on the Square, placing a shed in a parking stall for Farmer's Market use.

• Unanimously approved a resolution approving special events for the Green County Shrine Club Circus, Monroe Main Street Concerts on the Square, Green County Ag Chest Dairy Days parade, and Swiss Colony's Monroe Badger Days.

• Authorized installation of pedestrian crossings and warning signs and painting crosswalks at the intersections of 7th, 8th and 9th streets on 25th Avenue.

• Granted miscellaneous licenses to Jazmin L. Blake and Johnny L. McKibben; secondhand article dealer license to Sequels (Rosemary Facade); and circus license to Green County Shrine Club Circus.

• Granted on a 7-3 vote a temporary Class B Fermented Malt Beverage License in conjunction with outdoor beer garden to the Green County Humane Society for June 11 and 25. Alderpersons Charles Koch, Jan Lefevre and Paul Hannes voted against the measure.

• Passed on a 9-1 vote a resolution approving a relocation order and plat for the 8th/9th Street Project. Lefevre voted against the measure.

• Passed unanimously a resolution accepting bids and awarding a contract for the MERIT Center Training Tower Project for the cost of $155,859.54.
