LAFAYETTE COUNTY
FELONIES
Mack Jeremiah Stein, 25, Argyle, was charged Sept. 7 with two Class F felony counts of delivering cocaine. Stein's charges stem from two incidents on March 24 and April 8, when Stein sold two 3.5 gram packages of cocaine to an undercover agent for $300 each. Stein's initial appearance is scheduled for Sept. 26.
Austin James Bates, 18, Monroe, was charged Sept. 7 with two counts of felony bail jumping and a misdemeanor count of violating a harassment restraining order. The charges arose after Bates was seen in multiple locations closely following a woman who Bates was charged of stalking in Green County in June. Bates was ultimately stopped in the Town of Wiota and arrested. Violating the restraining order also violated the terms of his bond from the stalking case and an unrelated case of sexual contact with an underage girl in 2014. Bates will appear in court for a pre-trial conference Oct. 25.
Gary Allen Smith, 50, Fitchburg, was charged Sept. 2 with six counts of identity theft after he used a Darlington woman's financial information to withdraw $920 in late May and early June. Smith was reportedly visiting the woman and discovered her PIN, which he used to withdraw $100 from an ATM on May 29. Smith continued to steal money five more times from June 1 to 6 throughout Darlington. His initial appearance is scheduled for Sept. 26.
William D. Whittet, 62, Argyle, was charged Aug. 30 with false imprisonment and two misdemeanor counts of 4th degree sexual assault. Whittet was charged after an incident on June 14, when he allegedly groped two underage girls over and under their clothes in Argyle. When the victims attempted to leave, he forced them back to their seats and blocked the door. Whittet will appear for an initial appearance on Sept. 26.
