FELONIES
Jeramie W. Hurley, 29, South Wayne, was charged June 10 with felony strangulation and suffocation, misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor false imprisonment for allegedly strangling and hitting a woman he knows June 7 and refusing to let her leave his residence in the 1900 block of Cisserville Road. After Hurley made his initial appearance June 10, police records indicate, the court set a $5,000 signature bond ordering him not to contact the victim, drink, go into bars or liquor stores or consume nonprescription controlled substances. According to police reports, Hurley forcibly took away the woman's phone and when she went to his residence to ask for it back, he hit her in the head, put his hands over her mouth and nose, told her she couldn't leave multiple times, threatened to kill her and pushed her into the nearby Pecatonica River. She eventually left, without her phone, and drove to the emergency room, where hospital staff called police. Police arrested Hurley later in the day after he told investigators he pushed the woman and put his forearm on her throat. He has a preliminary hearing June 23.
Joseph A. White, 26, Dodgeville, was sentenced to four years of probation Wednesday after he pleaded no contest to felony burglary and bail jumping. He received an 18-month prison sentence - which was imposed and stayed - as well as two years of extended supervision. He will serve all sentences concurrently. He is ordered not to drink, go into bars or liquor stores or consume nonprescription controlled substances. He must also undergo drug and alcohol assessments and testing and pay restitution. The charges stemmed from a Jan. 14 burglary in which White and two other men broke into a residence on County F in the Town of Fayette and stole jewelry before unsuccessfully trying to outrun police. White has a restitution hearing Aug. 19.
Lindsey E. Lee, 33, Shullsburg, received four years of probation Wednesday after she pleaded guilty to felony charges of possessing methamphetamine, possessing drug paraphernalia and bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of concealing stolen property. She is ordered not to possess or purchase ephedrine or pseudoephedrine, drink, go into bars or liquor stores or consume nonprescription controlled substances. She must also undergo drug and alcohol assessments and testing. The charges stemmed from a July 18 incident in which Lee used another woman's driver's license to buy pseudoephedrine, a drug used to make methamphetamine, from a Platteville Walmart. Police, whom the National Precursor Log Exchange notified of the transaction, knew the supposed buyer had previously reported her driver's license was stolen, and she believed Lee took it. Police showed photos of Lee and the other woman to the cashier who authorized the purchase, who identified Lee as the person who brought the drugs. Later that day, police searched Lee's residence in the 400 block of Sidney Street. They found the other woman's driver's license, 0.6 grams of methamphetamine and various items of paraphernalia including drain cleaner, antifreeze, glassware, scales and packaging materials. The bail jumping charge stemmed from Lee's testing positive for marijuana and amphetamines Aug. 8 and failing to appear for a drug test Sept. 14.

Shane W. Holder, 22, Benton, was granted a deferred prosecution agreement Wednesday after he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge for pulling the hair of a woman he knows in March. If he follows the terms of the agreement, the charge will be dismissed after a year. He is ordered not to have abusive or violent contact with the victim, drink, go into bars or liquor stores or consume nonprescription controlled substances. He must also undergo drug and alcohol assessments and testing. The charge stemmed from a March 16 incident at a residence in the 5700 block of Johnson Road in Shullsburg. The woman told Holder she planned to move to another state the next day. He asked her to return a ring he bought her but she refused to give it back. He then pulled her hair and started to direct her head toward a car window when another man intervened. The following day, police arrested Holder after he told them he grabbed the woman by the hair.
