Green County Felonies

- Michael E. Hoffman, 27, Monroe, pleaded no contest Wednesday, Jan. 9, to a misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer and to revoking his probation on a fifth-offense felony conviction of driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced to two years in prison, minus 368 days of sentence credit, and two years of extended supervision. The charge of resisting stems from an incident in September, when Hoffman was found passed out and holding a hunting bow on Rat Hollow Road in the Town of Adams. The incident violated his probation on a felony DWI conviction from 2009. On April 3, 2009, Hoffman was stopped on Wisconsin 11/81 in the Town of Spring Grove. An officer reported there was an open 24-pack of Bud Light in the backseat and Hoffman had "droopy eyelids and very slow and slurred speech." At that time, Hoffman had been previously convicted of DWI in Green County in August 2002, July 2005, May 2007 and June 2008.

- Shane David Riley, 26, New Glarus, was charged Thursday, Jan. 10, with an unclassified felony count of disorderly conduct related to an incident two days earlier. Court records indicate he yelled and swore at two women at a residence in the 500 block of 14th Avenue in New Glarus and threatened to kill one of the women as he "slid his thumb across his throat." His preliminary hearing is Jan. 16.

- Rebecca J. Johnson, 25, Belleville, pleaded guilty Wednesday, Jan. 9, to a fourth-offense charge of driving while intoxicated. It is her fourth such conviction within five years. She was sentenced to three years of probation and nine months in jail. Her driver's license is revoked three years. Once her license is reinstated, she must use an ignition interlock device in her vehicle for three years. The DWI charge stems from an arrest in December 2011, when Johnson got into a rollover accident on County W just east of Argue Road in the Town of Exeter. An officer at the scene noted, "I found it very hard to understand Johnson as her speech was very slurred." She blew a breathalyzer test indicating 0.198 blood-alcohol concentration. She was previously convicted of DWI in July 2005, February 2009 and March 2010.

- Gary Bradford Child, 46, Monroe, was charged Friday, Jan. 11, with 11 felony and misdemeanor counts related to domestic abuse allegations stemming from a series of incidents at locations around Monroe from Jan. 6 to 9, all involving the same woman. Court records indicate he repeatedly strangled her, forced her against a wall, wrestled her to the ground and punched her with a closed fist. The alleged abuse left her with a black eye, a bump on her head, a bloody lip and two chipped front teeth. Records further indicate he threatened and harassed her with repeated phone calls, saying "Baby, please don't call the cops ... You better drop these charges or I'm taking you down with me." His cash bond is set at $10,000. His preliminary hearing is Jan. 18.
