Felonies

• Jennifer Lauren Bartels, 31, Oquawka, Ill., was granted a two-year deferred prosecution July 30 as part of a plea agreement on a series of misdemeanor and felony charges from 2011 and 2012, when she was living in the Monroe area. She pleaded no contest to charges of breaking into and stealing a car out of a garage in the W6500 block of Platinum Drive in Monroe Township in June 2012 with her father. Multiple other charges, including writing worthless checks, bail jumping, disorderly conduct and driving without a license, were dismissed. She is ordered to pay restitution, have no contact with her victims and abide by the custody and visitation rules set up with her children. She also must continue alcohol- and drug-abuse counseling and mental health treatment and attend parenting classes and quarterly monitoring conferences.

• Calvin D. Martin, Sr., 52, Monroe, was sentenced July 30 to three years of probation and six months in jail on felony convictions of possessing and dealing cocaine in Monroe. Court records indicate he sold cocaine to a paid informant with the State Line Area Narcotics Team (SLANT) on three occasions between August and November 2012. His jail sentence allows for Huber work release and is scheduled to begin Aug. 16.

• Raymond D. Ratcliff, 57, Monroe, pleaded no contest July 30 to a Class H felony charge of violating the rules of the state's sex offender registry by not keeping authorities updated on his new home address in the 800 block of 6th Street in Monroe in April 2012. The violation came to the attention of local police after they responded to a report that Ratcliff "creeped out" females living in the apartment complex by watching them and had allegedly broken into another person's apartment there. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail, which he has already paid, and ordered to pay the court $268.

Misdemeanors

• Darien Val Shimko, 18, Brodhead, pleaded no contest July 30 to a Class B misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and was granted a one-year deferred prosecution with the conditions that he pay the court $163, attend quarterly monitoring conferences and undergo an alcohol- and drug-abuse assessment and follow through with recommended counseling. A Class A misdemeanor charge of trespassing was dismissed but "read in," meaning the judge can consider it in his sentencing. The charges stem from an incident Sept. 22 in Brodhead, when Shimko was found passed out on a front porch in the 1000 block of West 3rd Avenue, intoxicated and with his blue jeans around his ankles, after pounding on the home's doors.
