FELONIES
- Christopher H. Stevens, 31, address unknown, pleaded no contest Wednesday, Aug. 1, to two misdemeanor charges of failure to pay child support in 2008 and 2009. Two similar felony charges were dismissed. He is sentenced to two years of probation on the condition that he pay $27,219.48 in child support, undergo an assessment for alcohol and other drug abuse and pay the court $899.70 for the cost of supervision and his extradition from Colorado.
- Billy Jack Ransom, 33, Beloit, has an initial appearance scheduled Aug. 20 on charges filed Thursday, Aug. 2, that he cashed a forged payroll check to the amount of $413.52 at M&J's Bar, 1117 W. 2nd Ave., Brodhead, in June. He faces a Class H felony count of forgery and a Class A misdemeanor count of theft by false representation.
MISDEMEANORS
- Mitchell E. Boeck, 19, Monroe, pleaded no contest Tuesday, July 31, to a Class B misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and was granted a one-year deferred prosecution with the conditions that he pay $263 to the court, undergo an assessment for alcohol and other drug abuse and attend monitoring conferences. Court records indicate Boeck caused a disturbance at a residence in the 1100 block of 20th Avenue on Mar. 27 by pounding on a window and door, yelling obscenities at his mother and injuring his grandfather. Dismissed against Boeck were charges of misdemeanor bail jumping and a charge of possessing drug paraphernalia.
- Deborah K. Jansen, 48, Monroe, pleaded no contest Wednesday, Aug. 1, to a charge of writing a worthless check to the amount of $37.71 to the Red Apple Inn, 1019 8th St., in October. The initial misdemeanor charge was amended to a forfeiture, and she was fined court costs plus restitution, a total of $229.70.
- Terra J. Alderman, 26, Brodhead, pleaded no contest Wednesday, Aug. 1, to a Class A misdemeanor charge of theft and was granted a 45-month deferred prosecution with the conditions that she pay restitution and court costs and get her high school diploma or the equivalent. Court records indicate she stole $2,181.34 from the Shoe Department, 301 6th Ave. W., Monroe, while employed there in November and December 2010.
- John Daniel Barrett, 26, Madison, pleaded no contest Thursday, Aug. 2, to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting or obstructing an officer. He is sentenced to two years of probation with the conditions that he continue counseling and not drink or enter establishments that sell alcohol. He was fined a total of $563.95. The charges stem from two incidents at Baumgartner's Cheese Store, 1023 16th Ave., Monroe. Court records indicate Barrett caused a disturbance behind the business early Jan. 1 by banging on the back door, screaming, throwing a recycling container and using foul language, and after fleeing police, was arrested with a blood-alcohol concentration of .166 percent. Court records further indicate Barrett again caused a disturbance Mar. 18 by walking into Baumgartner's and threatening to kill the store owner, then kicking an arresting officer so hard the officer required medical attention at the Monroe Clinic. Charges of bail jumping and additional charges of disorderly conduct and resisting were dismissed.
- Jeffrey James Johnson, 41, Brodhead, pleaded not guilty Tuesday, July 31, to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and battery filed the same day. Court records indicate he yelled at, pushed and repeatedly punched a woman the previous day in the 600 block of West 3rd Avenue in Brodhead. He signed a $750 signature bond. He has a pre-trial conference scheduled Sept. 4.
- Julie Menehan, 46, Brodhead, has an initial appearance scheduled Aug. 20 on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and bail jumping filed Thursday, Aug. 2. Court records indicate she caused a disturbance in the early morning hours of July 18 outside a residence in the 2000 block of 12th Street in Brodhead.
- John F. Miller, 56, Monroe, has an initial appearance scheduled Aug. 27 on a Class B misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct filed Thursday, Aug. 2. Court records indicate Miller was verbally abusive toward a woman and violently pushed her in May at a residence in the N3300 block of Joy Del Road in the Town of Monroe.
