William Charles Buchanan, 30, Beloit, pleaded no contest Thursday, Aug. 30, to Class H felony charges of forgery and resisting an officer, causing soft-tissue damage. He was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of extended supervision. Court records indicate Buchanan tried to pass a fake payroll check June 3 in Brodhead at M & J's Bar, 1117 West 2nd Ave., then tried to flee the bar when Brodhead police were arresting him, and the ensuing struggle left the officers with scrapes and bruises.
MISDEMEANORS
Donald Gene Bornemeier, 32, Monroe, pleaded no contest Thursday, Aug. 30, to a forfeiture charge of carrying a concealed weapon and was fined $330.50. A Class B misdemeanor charge was dismissed. Police reports indicate Bornemeier chased a Freeport man with a 35-inch stainless steel sword during a dispute June 20 in the 2200 block of 8th Street.
