FELONIES

• William Charles Buchanan, 30, Beloit, pleaded no contest Thursday, Aug. 30, to Class H felony charges of forgery and resisting an officer, causing soft-tissue damage. He was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of extended supervision. Court records indicate Buchanan tried to pass a fake payroll check June 3 in Brodhead at M & J's Bar, 1117 West 2nd Ave., then tried to flee the bar when Brodhead police were arresting him, and the ensuing struggle left the officers with scrapes and bruises.

MISDEMEANORS

• Donald Gene Bornemeier, 32, Monroe, pleaded no contest Thursday, Aug. 30, to a forfeiture charge of carrying a concealed weapon and was fined $330.50. A Class B misdemeanor charge was dismissed. Police reports indicate Bornemeier chased a Freeport man with a 35-inch stainless steel sword during a dispute June 20 in the 2200 block of 8th Street.
