MONROE - Three thefts were reported in close succession the morning of Monday, April 16, on Monroe's west side.
A CD player worth about $100 was stolen out of an unlocked vehicle in the 600 block of 17th Street, according to a police report taken at 5:48 a.m.
Four hours later, a person reported the theft of a $100 in-dash radio out of a locked vehicle in the same block.
At 9:43 a.m., police took a report that prescription medication had been stolen out of an unlocked vehicle five blocks away, in the 600 block of 22nd Avenue.
Thefts out of unlocked vehicles increase in warmer weather, said Police Chief Fred Kelley, and he advises that vehicles should always be locked to deter these crimes of opportunity.
"Most of the thieves are not that professional," he said, and their thefts are spur-of-the-moment decisions. "Don't make it easy."
