Charles "Tom" Dalton, age 85 of Monroe, died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at his home. Tom was born February 17, 1922 in Albany, Kentucky to George Sherman and Victoria Queen (Cecil) Dalton.

He married Mayme Belle Johnson on October 10, 1947 in Dubuque, Iowa. The couple has lived for the past 42 years in Monroe. Tom worked in the recapping dept. at Crandall's Inc. for several years and was employed 15 years at Industrial Combustion before retiring in 1987. His favorite pastimes were woodworking and motorcycling. He and Mamie drove their motorcycle to California and back when Tom was 70 years old.

Even though Tom suffered a stroke ten years ago that left him partially paralyzed he still led an active, independent, and self sufficient life.

Survivors include his wife, Mayme Dalton of Monroe; four children, Mary Ellen (Steve) Walden of Monroe, Barbara Sproul of Cass Lake, MN, Carl (Debbie) Dalton of Modesto, CA, and Joan (Scott) Mount of Duvall, WA; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters, Roscoe, Ethel, Grace, Belle, Herman, Sherman, Jean, Dora Lee, and Reed.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Pastor Matthew Spoonhour of the First Baptist Church, Monroe, will officiate with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe.
