Charles J. "Chuck" Drnek age 78 of Monroe, died Friday, February 13, 2015 at U.W. Hospital in Madison. Chuck was born February 14, 1936 in Chicago, IL and graduated from Birchwood, WI High School. Chuck served in the U.S. Marine Corps from May, 1954 until May, 1957 and the USMC reserves until 1962. Chuck married Jean Pratt on November 30, 1957 in Chicago. She preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 2010. Chuck worked as a meat cutter for National Tea Grocery in Chicago for 20 years until moving to Tuscon, AZ where he managed property for several years. He moved to Monroe in 2002 and became an active member of American Legion Post #84, serving two terms as commander. He enjoyed working part time at Keep'er Klean Car Wash of Monroe and was an avid Chicago sports fan.
He is survived by two sons, Lawrence Drnek and his family, John (Janet) Drnek of Joliet, IL and their daughters, Jennifer (Tyler) Kennedy of Joliet, and Katie (Eric) Johnson of Romeoville, IL; four great-grandchildren, Carter, Liam, Laynie, and Harper; two brothers, Frank (Marge) Risky, John Drnek; two sisters, Mary (Elmer) Wagner and Marie Bruecks; a special sister-in-law, Theresa Perkins; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Carol Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Joe (Agnes) Drnek; a sister, Fran (Nick) Czajka; a brother-in-law, Don Bruecks; and a sister-in-law, Gwen Drnek.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31st Ave., Monroe, with Father Michael Klarer officiating followed by a luncheon at the American Legion. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Chuck's name are suggested to the American Legion.
