Catherine V. "Kate" Sorn, 91, of Freeport, died Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center.

Born November 15, 1920 in Rockford she was the daughter of Elijah and Edna (Stout) Gamble. She married Milton Sorn November 12, 1940 and he died June 23, 2003.

Catherine was the Activity Director at Provena St. Joseph for 20 years.

She was the RSVP Coordinator at Highland Community College for 20 years retiring in 1983.

Her memberships included Eastern Star, White Shrine, Scottish Rite Woman's Club, and Alpha Zeta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.

She received the Presidential Volunteer Award in 2006.

Surviving are Twin sons, Donald (Marcia) of Monroe, WI, Ronald (Alla) of Freeport and Twin sons Randy (Nancy) of Phoenix, AZ and Ricky (Denise) of Freeport, her grand daughters, Susan (Mark) Gibney, Elizabeth Sorn, Melissa (Joseph) Holland, Christine (Dann) Youle, Stephanie (Brian) Terrizzi, Sarah Raymond, Jillian Sorn, Marissa (Daniel) Sorn-Feurster, Michelle (Ephraim) Risho and Tami Ostendorf. Her grandson, Darin Klinger. Her great Grandchildren, Brett Zimmerman, Allison Holland, Emma Holland, Claire Holland, Nicholas Gibney, Lily Gibney, Kamdyn Raymond, Hannah Youle, Aimee Youle, Garrett Youle, Kate Terrizzi, Aida Terrizzi, Celia Risho, Joshua Risho, Corbin Klinger, Eyon Ostendorf, Ella Disch, and Elia Disch.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 brothers; and 1 sister.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday November 3, 2012 at Walker Mortuary followed by her funeral service at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Tom McClellan officiating.

Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Memorials have been established for RSVP at Highland College and F.A.C.C. food pantry.
