Carl A. Wenger, age 94 of Argyle, WI, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington, WI. He was born February 13, 1915 at Puddledock Cheese Factory in Adams Township in Green County to Carl and Barbara (Tschudy) Wenger. Carl attended Puddledock School and worked in various cheese factories in the Argyle area. He lived in the Argyle area all his life except when he served in WWII with the 107th Engineers from April 15, 1941 until June 20, 1945. During the war he served overseas in Ireland, England, Italy, and at Allied Headquarters in Algiers, North Africa. Upon his return to the United States, he went to work for Blanchardville Co-op Oil, where he worked until his retirement. Carl also worked part-time at the Riverside Tap for many years. He was united in marriage to Edna Claussen on August 16, 1949 at Argyle Lutheran Church.

Carl is survived by his wife: Edna; three children: Karen Johnson of Argyle, WI, James (Renee) Wenger of Dodgeville, WI, and Paul (Amy) Wenger of Cedar Rapids, IA; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters: Bertha Vinger of Argyle, WI, and Margaret Retrum of Richland Center, WI; and one sister-in-law: Ruth Wenger of New Glarus, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Walter Wenger; and two brothers-in-law: Lawrence Vinger and Robert Retrum.

Carl was a member of Argyle Lutheran Church, Argyle American Legion Post #251, and he served for twenty-two years on the Argyle Village Board. He loved to read, work in his garden, and spend time with his family. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2009 at Argyle Lutheran Church, 100 East Street in Argyle with Rev. John Shep officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites to be accorded by Argyle American Legion Post #251. A visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Friday, June 26, 2009 at Argyle Lutheran Church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family.
