Brian T. Herbst age 50 of rural Cuba City, WI passed away at his home on Saturday, February 26, 2011 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born to Faedelus H. and Elva M. (Brandt) Herbst Hermanson on September 14, 1960 in Darlington, WI. Brian graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1979. He was united in marriage to Polly A. Moser on February 27, 2010 in Dubuque, IA. Brian was the youngest of nine children. He worked at Kelly Springfield Plant in Freeport, IL for 31 years until his illness forced him to retire last year.
Brian is survived by his wife: Polly at home; a son: Luke at home; a step-daughter: Courtney (special friend Travis Hovind) Fernandez of Dubuque, IA; his mother: Elva Hermanson of Monroe, WI; six brothers: Bob (Chris) Herbst of Benton, WI, Steve (Beth) Herbst of Monroe, Ed (Dawn) Herbst of Hazel Green, WI, Jim "Shorty" Herbst of Milton, WI, Bill (special friend Shari Cook) Herbst of Monroe, and David Herbst of Dubuque; two sisters: Kristie (Joe) Wubben of Menominee, IL, and Le Ann (Jeff) Olson of Winona, MN; two brothers-in-law: Dennis Busch of Shullsburg, WI, and David (Patty) Moser of East Dubuque, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father: Freddie (Faedelus) Herbst, step-father: Harold Hermanson; mother and father-in-law: Collette Moser and Duane (Pearl) Moser; and nephew: Phillip Herbst.
Brian was a member of Steel Workers Union, and a past member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Shullsburg. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, all sports, and walks with his dogs. Brian will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Shullsburg, WI (344 North Judgement Street, Shullsburg 53586) with Rev. Anthony Aakula officiating. Burial will be at St. Matthew Cemetery in Shullsburg. A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg, WI (235 N. Judgement St., Shullsburg 53586).
