Betty Jane Olson, age 73, of Monroe, died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at the Monroe Manor. Betty was born July 18, 1934 in Juda, Wisconsin, the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Schwartz) Leuzinger. She attended Monticello schools and married Gordon C. Olson on March 22, 1952 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe.
Betty enjoyed singing and playing the accordion and guitar in a group called the Cadiz Springs Boys and worked for Monroe Cheese Corp in Monticello for several years. She and her husband farmed in Winslow, IL for five years before moving to the Argyle area where they farmed until 1982. They lived in Pelican Lake, WI for eight years before moving to Monroe in 1997. Betty was a member of the Monroe Women of the Moose Chapter #599 and enjoyed music and her pets, especially her dog Precious.
Survivors include eight children, Sandra L. (Gordon) Grossen of Monticello, Jo Barnett of Pawleys Island, S.C., Monica Koch (Duane Fox) of South Wayne, Suzanne Robertson (Kevin Berget) of Orangeville, IL, David Olson of Camp Douglas, WI, Jacqueline ( Clifford) Roderiques of Raeford, N.C., Rita (John) Novak of Monroe, and Roberta Krueger (James Bertrang) of Monroe; 22 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; a sister, Ruth Toepfer of Pensacola, FL; four sisters-in-law, Catherine, Jeanette, and Hilda Leuzinger and Agnes Legler; two brothers-in-law, Harlan Olson and Donald (Alice) Olson; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on August 17, 1997; a grandson, Matthew Grossen; 12 brothers and sisters; and two sons-in-law, Joe Krueger and Al Barnett.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Pastor Mary Gafner of Washington Reformation United Church, Monticello, will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Women of the Moose service to be held at 8:15 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Betty's name.
