Bernita M. Rufenacht age 95 of Gratiot, Wisconsin died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Aster Retirement Center in Monroe, WI. She was born September 2, 1917 in Lafayette, County WI the daughter of Frank and Clara (Leary) Eckerman and graduated from Platteville WI State College.

Bernita married Godfrey Rufenacht and they farmed in Lafayette County area. Bernita was a school teacher at Evergreen, Watson & Blackhawk schools in the South Wayne area for 52 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gratiot.

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara (John) Yde-Novy of Hartland, WI; grandchildren, Jay (Tracy), Todd (Suzanne), Shawn (Dawn), Tammy (Dan), Kevin, & Brad (Tera) Yde and Dawn Heller, Hollie (Steve) Adamsky, Jimmy (Julie) Rufenacht, Heidi (Jerry) Von Kaenel, & Lisa (Scott) Capesius; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; son, James Rufenacht; and great-grandson, James Taylor Rufenacht.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gratiot, WI with Fr. Joji Reddy Celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, rural Gratiot.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive & N. 18th Avenue in Monroe.

A Memorial Fund is being established in Bernita's memory.
