Barbara (Kundert) Van Dixhorn

Barbara (Kundert) Van Dixhorn, age 79 of Minnetonka, MN passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 at her home. She was born in Monroe, the daughter of Ralph and Wilma (Norder) Kundert. Barbara graduated from Monroe High School in 1950 and went on to study nursing at Madison General Hospital. She marred Ralph Van Dixhorn on June 10, 1955 and accompanied him to live in Ecuador for some 12 years serving there as a nurse, homemaker and friend. Upon returning to the U.S. she worked as a nurse wherever her husband got work - West Bend, WI, Fort Dodge, IA, Dubuque, IA, and Princeton, MN.

She is survived by her husband Ralph and four children - Lynn (Phil) Martinson, St. Louis Park, MN, Lee (Ann) Van Dixhorn, West Allis, WI, Steven (Ann Marie) Van Dixhorn, Fort Edward, NY, and Timothy (Brenda) Van Dixhorn, Eden Prairie, MN, and 11 grandchildren. She is also survived by her four sisters Joan (Raymound) Rupnow, Monroe, Carol (William) Moser, Monticello, Marion (Thomas) Best, Kalispell, MT. and Patricia (Nathan) Isely, Madison.

She has a special love for her children and grandchildren. She also had a special concern for the less fortunate, much of which was acquired from her years in Ecuador. She was always looking for ways in each community to be a helping hand for those with needs. She was also an avid gardener, which both she and her husband loved to do together.

Funeral services were held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Excelsior, MN on December 21, 2011.
