Arthur "Gene" Flesher, age 75, of Monticello, died on Friday, April 22, 2016 following a long and brave battle with heart failure. Gene was blessed with his final request - to die peacefully in his home, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Gene was born on June 12, 1940, the eldest child of Pat and Kathryn (Legler) Flesher. He attended Marty Country School and graduated from Monticello High School in 1958. He was employed as a mechanic at Voegeli Chevrolet for many years and continued to work with motors his entire life. He worked at Argyle Industries until the plant closed and then finished his post-retirement at the Monroe Clinic. Gene was chief of the Monticello Fire Department for 20 years. He loved hunting and fishing, polka music, his dogs, and was an avid Harley rider.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Larry and Richard Flesher. He is survived by his wife, Melody (Wahl) Flesher; three sons, Randy (Sandy) Flesher, Kord (Cindee) Flesher, and Shane (Carrie) Flesher; two daughters, Stacy Busjahn and Brooke (Dusten) Hoesly; and a sister, Nancy Hahn. He was a proud Grandpa of many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he fondly called "the Rats".

Private family services will be held at his home. Memorials are suggested in Gene's name to the Monroe Clinic Hospice. The Voegeli-Newcomer Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
