Arabelle Jane Mitchell of Monroe, passed away on November 21, 2012 at Four Winds Nursing Home in Verona, WI. Arabelle was born October 24, 1921 in South Wayne, WI, the daughter of John and Lela (Stites) Gage. She graduated from South Wayne High School and attended Rockford Business College in Rockford, IL. She also took management courses at the UW Extension and writing courses at UW-Rock County.
Arabelle and Arlie G. (Buck) Mitchell were married on September 10, 1944 at the South Wayne Methodist Church. She was employed by Gateway Transportation Company for several years and retired from Swiss Colony in 1986 after 26 years of working in the Monroe and Madison offices. Arabelle was a member of the United Methodist Church in Monroe serving several years on the local administrative council and as a lay delegate to the General Church Conference. She was a past president of the United Methodist Women's Society and a member of the Deborah Circle. Arabelle was an officer of the St. Omar Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star for many years and was also a past worthy matron of the organization. Her interest in the Rainbow Girl's Assembly was evident as she was secretary of the board for many years. She was also a member of the Monroe V.F.W. Auxiliary. Arabelle was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge with friends. She loved family gatherings and listening to the stories told by her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Schliem, Platteville; sons, Mark (Carol), De Pere; Matthew (Lynn), Verona; and John Mitchell, Browntown; grandchildren, Sarah Schliem, Madison; Aaron Schliem, Madison; Mason (Jane) Mitchell, Schaumburg, IL; Marlo (Marie Stipp) Mitchell, Gina (Greg) Robertson, Calgary, Canada; Ryan Mitchell, Verona; and Josh (Angie) Daughenbaugh, Monroe; greatgrandchildren, Sophia and Mati Schliem, Quintin and Hunter Robertson, Samantha Solberg, Jadee, Jace, and Jaxson Daughenbaugh; brother-in-law, Donald Spencer, Cottage Grove; and sister-in-law, Inez (Hermie) Heinzelman, Monroe; and many loving nieces and nephews. Arabelle was predeceased by her parents; husband, Arlie, sisters, Susan Spencer and Mary (Hasley) Klostermeyer, brother, Avery Gage, and daughter-in-law, Sally Mitchell.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church Monroe, 2227 4th Street Monroe, WI.
Memorial services will follow at 12:00 Noon at the church, with Rev. Randy Booth officiating with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or the Green County Humane Society.
