Alvin J. Gmur, age 72 of rural Darlington, WI passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016 at William S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison. He was born September 10, 1943 to Joseph and Lillian (Schuetz) Gmur. Alvin attended Meadow Valley School and New Glarus High School. Alvin worked for Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. in Freeport for 27 years and was a carrier for the Monroe Times. He was a proud veteran of the U.S Marine Corps, and life member of the New Glarus VFW Post #10549.
Alvin is survived by his two brothers, Jacob (Carole) Gmur of Madison and Bob (Chris) Gmur of Lodi. He is further survived by his former wife Sandra Grossen, step-children Mark (Sherri) Hanna and Daryn Hanna, step-grandchildren Chelsea (Kyle), Briana (Randy), Cazanovia Madyson, step-great-grandchildren Kathrina, Brigitte, McKenna, Japanga, Carter, Hunter, and Daniel. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Per Alvin's wishes a Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the American Legion Post #84, 1627 Twelfth Ave., Monroe, WI, near the corner of Highway 69 South and 17th St. Military honors will be given at 3:00 p.m.
