Alfred 'Al' Haugen

BRODHEAD - Alfred "Al" Haugen, age 79, of Brodhead, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at his home. He was born on August 9, 1929, the son of Knut and Margaret Haugen. He married Betty (Hill) Bauling on November 26, 1976 at Luther Valley Church.

Al graduated from Orfordville High School in 1947. He was a dairy farmer all of his life and a 30 year member of the National Farmers Organization, where he had served as Dairy Board Chairman. He was a lifetime member of Luther Valley Church, a choir member for 35 years, and served on various church boards. Al was on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Tractor Pullers Association for 20 years. He won more state championships than any other puller in W.T.P.A. history and won "Puller of the Year" award many times. He enjoyed bowling in several leagues, and watching the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, Gary, Brodhead; a daughter, Deanne (Dean) Grenawalt, Beloit; a brother, Harold Haugen, Brodhead; two sisters, Mabel Onsgard, Orfordville, Irene (Ed) Engen, Brodhead; two grandchildren, Jason (Diane), and Aaron (Rachael) Grenawalt; four step-children, Diane (Bruce) Santorini, Rockford, IL, Dennis (Kathy) Bauling, Winnebago, IL, Nancy Bauling, Sun Prairie, Gary (Anna) Bauling, Brodhead; five step-grandchildren, Jenny (Adam), Joshua, Wendi, Brianne and Cassie; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alice Onsgard.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Luther Valley Church, rural Beloit, with Pastor Mary Froiland officiating. Burial will be in East Luther Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2008, from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI. and from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church on Thursday. A memorial fund will be established.
