MONROE - Four people were injured when a truck went into a crowd of people watching a ballgame at about 8:45 p.m., Friday, at W5222 County K.
Stephen L. Messerli, 59, Monroe, told Green County Sheriff's deputies he was driving his truck into a parking stall when his foot slipped off the brake and onto the accelerator. The truck went over a concrete parking stop and down an embankment.
The truck hit a light pole and went into a crowd of people.
Jordan J. Knox, 20, Monroe, was hit by the passenger side mirror of the truck, knocking him backward. The truck also hit Dixie R. Wettach, Monticello, and Sarah J. Blumer, 7, Monticello. Blumer went under the truck. A third child, Hera J. Wettach, 8-months-old, was in a car seat that was pushed along the ground by the front end of the truck.
Other people standing in front of the bleachers were able to get out of the way.
The four injured people declined medical transport.
The truck received moderate damage.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the Green County Sheriff's Department.
The Monroe Police Department, Monroe Fire Department and Green County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene.
