MONROE — A New Glarus teen is facing multiple sexual assault charges, after police allege, he blackmailed an underage high school girl into having sex with him multiple times and exchanged explicit pictures of himself with two other teens.
As a result of a lengthy investigation, Nolan Bodenstein, 18, is charged with two counts of third-degree sexual assault, exposing genitals, child enticement, attempted child pornography, and threatening to communicate derogatory information.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Green County Circuit Court, Bodenstein would befriend the underage girls, even after he turned 18, and urge them to send him nude pictures of themselves. Some of the conversations were initiated on the SnapChat social media site popular with teens.
In one such case, he allegedly threatened suicide to get a girl to send him the pictures, and reportedly placed a gun to his head.
Once he received explicit images from one such victim, he reportedly forced her to have sex with him multiple times in his car, including while parked near Veteran’s Park in New Glarus. And if the victim did not comply, he threatened to distribute the explicit images of the victim throughout the school.
Authorities were alerted to the cases by New Glarus High School and police responded there in November of 2022 to begin the investigation. Bodenstein was a teaching assistant at the high school and also played on the hockey and golf teams.
“(The victim) stated that she didn’t want to have sex with Nolan but unwillingly did have sexual intercourse on both November 29 and November 30, 2022 as she felt she had no other choice as she didn’t want the photos she had sent to him being released to other students at school,” said the criminal complaint against Bodenstein. “(She) stated she did not consent to the sex and that she felt forced.”
Bodenstein reportedly would go to extremes to try to entice the girls to either be with him or send explicit photographs. He also sent pictures of himself nude, and at least one video of him masturbating. Sometime in January is when he allegedly used the video chat tool “FaceTime” to send a picture of himself threatening suicide by holding a gun to his head.
“(The victim) reported this this was a shotgun and described how Nolan turned his phone on FaceTime to display the gun. (She) advised that his arm was extended from his body with the barrel against his head…”
He also reportedly threatened suicide to a second underage victim he was trying to seduce. Bodenstein also is charged with punching the same girl in the stomach outside of the high school.
Bodenstein’s initial appearance was set for Monday before Judge Thomas J. Vale. Bond has not been set, nor have any future court dates.
