On September 7:

● At 1:31 a.m., officers were called to a single vehicle hit and run accident with no reported injuries, at 13th Street and 20th Avenue. The investigation indicated that a vehicle operated by Ernesto Sanchez Chipahua, 21, of Monroe, was traveling westbound in the 2000 block of 13th Street, failed to stop for the stop sign at 20th Avenue, and collided with a curb and terrace on the west side of the intersection causing severe damages. Sanchez Chipahua fled the scene in his vehicle and later collided with a legally parked unattended vehicle in the 1300 block of 17th Avenue. This parked vehicle sustained minor damages. Sanchez Chipahua again fled this second crash scene and was located by an officer in the 1400 block of 14th Street. Sanchez Chipahua’s vehicle sustained disabling damages and was towed. Sanchez Chipahua was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-1st offense and obstructing officers. Sanchez Chipahua was also cited for operating while suspended, failure to wear a seatbelt, operating without insurance, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, failure to notify police of an accident and hit and run to an unattended vehicle. Sanchez Chipahua was confined in the Green County Jail pending a court appearance.

On September 17:

● At 5:14 p.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle accident with reported injuries, at 13th Street and 20th Avenue. The investigation indicated that a vehicle operated by Linda E. Stykel, 64, of Freeport, IL, was stopped at the stop sign westbound on 13th Street. Stykel entered the intersection to make a turn and collided with a vehicle, operated by Isai Rivera Benavidez, 28, of Monroe, which was traveling south on 20th Avenue. Rivera Benavidez reported non-life threatening injuries but declined EMS. Both vehicle sustained functional damages. Stykel was cited for failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign and released pending a court appearance. Rivera Benavidez was cited for operating without a valid driver’s license and operating without insurance, and was released pending a court appearance.
