On September 26:
● At 8:20 p.m., officers were called to intersection of 21st Street and STH 69 for a report of a hit and run accident with no injuries. The investigation indicated that a vehicle operated by Natasha L. Smith, 37, of Monroe, was stopped at the eastbound stop lights on 21st Street, and was rear-ended by a second vehicle, which then left the scene without stopping. Officers were able to locate the second vehicle at a residence in the 1300 block of 17th Avenue and identified the driver during the accident as Jerry Bolivar, 55, of Monroe. Bolivar was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-1st offense. Bolivar was also cited with hit and run to an attended vehicle and failure to notify police of an accident. Bolivar was booked and released to a responsible adult pending a court appearance.
On October 1:
● At 4:47 a.m., officers attempted to make a traffic offense stop of a vehicle in the 600 block of STH 69. The vehicle did not stop but instead fled, increased speed and causing a pursuit to ensue north on STH 81. The vehicle operator later identified as LeAndrew V. Byndom, 31, of Freeport, IL, attempted to turn into a private driveway in the W7800 block of STH 81, lost control and the vehicle left the roadway, becoming disabled. Byndom fled on foot but was located and arrested. Byndom sustained minor non-life-threatening injuries during the crash, was looked at by EMS but declined transport. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed. Byndom was charged with felony knowingly fleeing an officer, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-1st offense and reckless driving. Byndom was also cited for speeding, possession of tetrahydrocannabinols (Delta 9 marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Byndom was confined in the Green County Jail pending a court appearance.
On October 2:
● At 8:29 p.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle accident with no reported injuries, at STH 69 and 2nd Street. An investigation indicated that a vehicle operated by Ashley L. Trappe, 39, of Monroe, was northbound on STH 69, attempted to turn west on to 2nd Street and collided with a vehicle which was southbound on STH 69, operated by a Freeport, IL woman. Both vehicle sustained severe damages and were towed. Trappe was cited for failure to yield the right of way while making a left turn, operating while suspended and operating without insurance. Trappe was released pending a court appearance.
On October 3:
● At 1:08 p.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle accident, with reported injuries, in the 700 block of 8th Avenue. An investigation indicated that a vehicle operated by Barbara G. Morris, 71, of Monroe, turned south from a private drive on to 8th Avenue and collided with a vehicle which was southbound on 8th Avenue, operated by a Monticello woman. The Monticello woman reported minor injuries but declined medical transport. Both vehicles sustained moderate damages. Morris was cited for failure to yield the right of way from a private drive and released pending a court appearance.
● At 1:59 p.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle accident, with no reported injuries, at 8th Street and STH 69. An Investigation indicated that a vehicle operated by Sharon K. Peters, 86, of Mt. Carroll, IL, was eastbound on 8th Street, attempted to turn right on to STH 69, and collided with a westbound vehicle operated by a Winslow, IL, man who was turning left on to STH 69. Both vehicles sustained functional damages. Peters was cited for making an improper right turn and was released pending a court appearance.
● At 12:29 p.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle accident with no reported injuries, at the intersection of 8th Street and STH 69. The investigation indicated that a vehicle operated by Austin B. Rufer, 29, of Monroe, was stopped westbound on 8th Street at STG 69, accelerated forward and crashed into the rear of a vehicle which stopped to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk. Both vehicles sustained functional damage. Rufer was cited for inattentive driving and released pending a court appearance.
