Results of Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement patrols

PECATONICA — Illinois State Police (ISP) District 16 Commander, Acting Captain Joseph Blanchette, announced the results of various enforcement efforts in Stephenson and Winnebago County during June.

Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols allowed the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs.

There was one other alcohol/drug citation. There were 13 occupant restraint offenses and 13 registration offenses with 13 driver’s license offenses. There were five insurance violations.

There was a total of 84 citations with nine arrests and a total of 69 written warnings.

Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. There is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 53 minutes in the United States. The ACE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous DUI offenders from the road.

Results of Distracted Driving Enforcement

Distracted Driving Enforcement Program patrols provided extra patrol coverage for ISP officers to focus on saving lives and reducing serious crashes by enforcing distracted driving laws.

There were 20 handheld phone/device citations and two texting while driving citations with a total of 22 distracted driving citations.

The total of all citations was 72 with a total of 36 for all written warnings.

Results of Occupant Restraint Enforcement patrols

Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols (OREP) provided extra patrol coverage for the ISP so officers could focus on saving lives by making sure all vehicle occupants were buckled up.

There were 38 safety belt citations with three child restraint citations. A total of 56 citations and nine written warnings were issued.

Most motorists know safety belts save lives, but some ignore their safety and that of their families by neglecting to use safety belts and child restraint devices. These patrols reinforce the occupant protection message by focusing on those who ignore the law. Lives can be saved if people simply “buckle up!”

Results of Nighttime Enforcement Patrols

Nighttime Enforcement (NITE) patrols allowed the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations especially between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

There was one driving under the influence citations with four other alcohol/drug citations. There were seven occupant restraint offenses and six registration offenses. There were eight driver’s license offenses and six insurance violations.

There was a total of 68 citations with seven arrests and 35 written warnings.

Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. Over half of all fatal crashes in Illinois occur at night. The NITE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous impaired drivers from the road and making sure everyone is buckled up.

ISP announce the use of roadside safety checks

Illinois State Police (ISP) District 16 Commander, Acting Captain Joseph Blanchette, announces the ISP will conduct roadside safety checks in Winnebago County during Aug. The use of roadside safety checks combines a strong sense of public awareness and enforcement in order to save lives of the motoring public.

The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois. Officers working the detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, and most importantly:

● Driving Under the Influence (DUI);

● safety belt and child restraint use;

● speeding;

● distracted driving; and,

● all Illinois vehicle code and criminal violations

Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, and throughout the U.S., nearly 10,000 people die each year due to alcohol-impaired driving. Safety checks are designed to keep the roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.
