Felonies
● Jon Robert Paul Haase, 26, Brodhead, was charged March 26 with felony bail jumping and a Class A misdemeanor count of retail theft, stemming from an incident Jan. 21 at Foster’s Gaming & Collectibles, 1021 1st Center Ave., Brodhead. Court records indicate Haase shoplifted an Xbox gaming controller by ripping it out of its packaging while a friend talked with the store owner. Haase came back to return it the next day. When confronted by police, he admitted to stealing the controller and said it was a “dumb move” because he had the money to pay for it.
● Jeremy Harold Hardyman, 33, Monticello, was charged March 26 with felony counts of strangulation and false imprisonment and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and battery, stemming from an incident Jan. 18 at a residence on 2nd Street in New Glarus. Court records indicate he was upset with his girlfriend over relationship issues and blocked her from leaving the bathroom, threw her onto the ground, pinned her arms down, choked her until she saw stars and only stopped strangling her when a neighbor who overheard the commotion pounded on the front door and asked what was going on.
● Mitchel Jeffrey Disch, 37, Footville, was charged March 26 with two Class H felony counts of forgery and two Class A misdemeanor counts of receiving or concealing stolen property. Court records indicate he forged stolen checks and cashed them at Center Tavern, 108 Water St., Albany, in August and September.
● Paul Michael Rose, 33, incarcerated, was charged March 26 with a Class I felony count of substantial battery and a Class H felony count of committing battery as a prisoner, stemming from an incident March 24 at the Green County Jail. Court records indicate Rose asked another inmate to stop shaking the table they were sitting at, and when the other inmate said he wasn’t shaking it, “they got in a tussle,” in the words of a witnessing inmate. Rose slapped the inmate off the table and then stood over him and hit him four times, surveillance video footage showed. The inmate sustained a swollen lip, black eye and nasal fracture.
● Patrick Howard Roper, 43, Belleville, was charged March 26 with one Class I felony count of theft and six Class H felony counts of misappropriating ID info to obtain money. Court records indicate Roper stole checks, family heirlooms and around $4,500 in gold jewelry from a rural Belleville residence.
● Lawrence B. Townsend, 38, Monroe, pleaded guilty April 25 to a Class H felony charge of violating state sex offender registry requirements. Court records indicate he failed to report a move from Illinois to an apartment in the 800 block of 6th Street in Monroe. He was sentenced to two years on probation, with an imposed and stayed jail sentence of one year. He was a Rock County Jail inmate at the time of his sentencing, after having his probation revoked on a 2018 misdemeanor battery conviction.
● Dustin Jon Olson, 29, Monroe, was charged March 28 with one Class H felony count of receiving stolen property, stemming from the theft of a trailer with bales of hay on it from a location in Monticello. The total value of the trailer and hay was $2,050.
● Esteban Mejia Viveros, 25, Monroe, was charged March 28 with a Class H felony count of failure to report to jail. Court records indicate he did not report on March 16 for his scheduled commitment for a second-offense conviction of operating while intoxicated. A warrant is issued for his arrest.
● Carl Alan Offerdahl, 38, Joliet, Illinois, entered a three-year deferred prosecution agreement May 1 on eight Class I felony counts of failure to pay child support. If he complies with the conditions of the agreement, the case will be dismissed in 2022. Court records indicate he was ordered to pay $35/week in child support starting in 2002 but failed to pay between 2010 and 2016 and owed $19,390.25 in child support arrearages.
● Donald W. Moore, 41, Millston, was charged March 28 with two unclassified felony counts of disorderly conduct, stemming from disputes Feb. 17 and 20 at an apartment in the 300 block of 2nd Street in Monroe. Court records indicate he had been drinking and made threats and was physically threatening to two people in the home.
● Jennifer Lynne Straws, 26, Monroe, was charged March 28 with a Class G felony count of intimidation of a victim and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, battery and criminal damage to property, stemming from an argument with a family member Feb. 20 at her home in the 900 block of 16th Street in Monroe. Court records indicate the argument turned physical and a phone was damaged.
Misdemeanors
● Austin Dean Flood, 23, Monroe, pleaded no contest April 23 to a misdemeanor charge of resisting or obstructing an officer. He was sentenced to 13 days in jail. Numerous other misdemeanors including possession of a hazardous substance with intent to abuse that substance were dismissed as part of a plea deal.
The cases stem from four arrests made under similar circumstances over the past eight months in Monroe. In each case, police reported finding Flood passed out or inebriated, often in public, after huffing Ultra Duster canned air.
