Baraboo man faces charges across 3 counties

DARLINGTON — A 34-year-old Baraboo man faces five sets of felony charges in three different counties.

Cord J. Wardell is charged in Grant County with fourth-offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, fourth-offense operating with prohibited alcohol concentration, ignition interlock device tampering or failure to install, resisting or obstructing an officer, and nine counts of felony bail jumping.

Wardell was arrested in Platteville June 8. He waived his preliminary hearing Dec. 8 and stood mute to the charge. Not-guilty pleas were entered on Wardell’s behalf, according to court records.

A status conference will be held Feb. 28. Wardell is free on a $1,000 signature bond with the condition he not possess or consume alcohol.

Wardell is scheduled to go to trial in Lafayette County in early February on operating an ATV or UTV while intoxicated causing injury, operating an ATV or UTV with prohibited alcohol concentration causing injury, and second-degree recklessly causing injury, for an August 2022 incident.

Wardell, who lived in Mineral Point at the time according to court records, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty to the charges in January 2023. Wardell’s trial was originally scheduled for last July, according to court records.

A status conference will be held next Monday.

Wardell also faces three counts of felony bail jumping, for incidents March 15 and March 30. Wardell waived his right to a preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty June 13.

Wardell’s bail was set at a $1,000 signature bond with the conditions he not possess or consume alcohol or controlled substances without a prescription, stay out of bars, and not contact the victim of the 2022 UTV crash.

Wardell also faces on Iowa County felony bail jumping charge after the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man at the Iowa County Fairgrounds breaking his bond conditions Sept. 3. Wardell waived his preliminary hearing and stood mute to the charge, with a not-guilty plea entered on his behalf, according to court records.

A plea/sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 27.
