NEW GLARUS - Dr. William Conzemius will continue as interim superintendent of the New Glarus school district for an undetermined period of time.
"Dr. Conzemius is the right person at the right time to lead the District," said Mary Anne Oemichen, board member, in a statement from the district. "He has the skills and personality to bring people together to help achieve the overriding goal of providing the best possible education and maximum opportunities for our students."
The board made a unanimous decision to extend Dr. Conzemius' contract and Conzemius agreed to extend his term.
The statement did not indicate how many months the interim position was extended.
According to the board's announcement, Dr. Conzemius has been establishing positive relationships with community organizations, building collaborative relationships with staff, and preparing initiatives relating to student achievement and long-term strategic planning during the past months.
Board members said that it is in the district's best interest to have Dr. Conzemius continue these initiatives, the statement said.
Conzemius will continue to work with staff and the board to devise a plan to continually improve student achievement, update the district's strategic plan, plan for future space needs and stabilize the budget.
Board members said having these systems in place prior to the arrival of a permanent superintendent will help insure a smooth transition, and will also provide the permanent superintendent with a clear vision and plan for the future.
Dr. Conzemius is excited about his continued tenure with the district, he said, in the statement.
"This is an exceptional school district with substantial opportunities for the future," he said. "I feel fortunate to continue the planning process with the board and with staff."
