DARLINGTON - A convicted Lafayette County sex offender is being released back into the community this week to a rural address north of Darlington.
Ryan "Bubba" J. Larson, 36, formerly of Shullsburg, will be residing at 15591 County F, Town of Darlington. The Lafayette County Sheriff's Department announced his release Wednesday.
Larson was convicted of a July 2003 first-degree sexual assault involving use of a dangerous weapon, a Class B felony, and of a related Class H felony charge of false imprisonment. The victim was a Shullsburg woman.
Larson was sentenced in March 2004 to 10 years in prison and 14 years on extended supervision.
After Larson got out of prison in early 2014, the Wisconsin Department of Justice petitioned for Larson to be committed as a sexually violent person under the state's sexual predator law. The petition alleged Larson suffered from mental conditions that predispose him to engage in acts of sexual violence.
Court records show that until this week, Larson was living at the Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center, a specialized treatment facility in Mauston for people committed under the state's sexual predator law.
