Construction crews using nearby parcel for project, not new business

MONROE - A parcel of land previously slated for possible development by convenience store chain Casey's General Store has been designated as a staging area by Eighth Street project construction workers in exchange for some materials from the city.

City Administrator Phil Rath said the plot of land, nearly 2 acres at the corner of Sixth Avenue West and West Eighth Street across from Taco Bell, was a useful site for keeping certain equipment. Rock Road Construction of Janesville has been using the space. In exchange, Rath said the city provided fill material, which was needed for the site.

Rath added that some people have questioned whether a Casey's General Store will be built on the spot since dirt has been moved, but he emphasized this was not the case.
