MONROE - Main Street Monroe's Concerts on the Square kicks off for the season June 10 with Colony Brands again underwriting the entertainment series. This year's lineup brings live music to the downtown square with two concerts each month from June through August.

Building off last year, each night will be unique, with entertaining and engaging intermission acts and tie-ins to Main Street Monroe's summer theme: SuperCows.

Madison-based The Gomers will play the first show June 10. The second concert on June 24 will feature a community celebration and employee fun night in recognition of Colony Brand's 90th anniversary.

Main Street Monroe is especially excited for the Big Band concert scheduled for a Thursday, July 28. Jordan Nordby, Main Street Monroe executive director, said that last year a grant was received from the Monroe Fund for a senior night. Transportation from area senior citizen housing was coordinated for the show, with seating provided, and they look forward to similar plans this year.

Other notable plans include a Sunset Celebration night Aug. 12 with an area set aside for craft vendors, artisan demonstrations, performance artists and non-profits. The goal is to recognize the many groups that work together to improve the community. While the final list of non-profits is being compiled, Pleasant View Foundation and the Monroe Clinic Foundation Hospice are slated to be

recognized. Main Street anticipates it will again be partnering with Paul Mitchell The School, with students assisting with clean up and working the Main Street booth.

The final concert is also scheduled for a Thursday, Aug. 25, and will be a double billing with local favorites Birddog Blues Band and the Family Business performing.

In addition to the popular beer garden, new this year will be the availability of wine at each concert. Proceeds from wine sales will benefit Main Street, the Knights of Columbus, Green County Humane Society and Habitat for Humanity, depending on the night.

The bands chosen for 2016 represent a variety of musical genres. The Main Street Monroe Concerts sub-committee began reviewing bands late last summer. The complete lineup can be found on mainstreetmonroe.org and by following "Downtown Monroe Events and News" on Facebook. The goal of the series is to provide a family-friendly, lively evening of entertainment while showcasing the Main Street Monroe district as a destination for shopping, dining and events.
