MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center's Legacy Campaign announced a donation from Colony Brands, Inc. that will enhance its support to the building project from $250,000 to $750,000.

MAC, housed in a former Methodist church, has outgrown its historic building and needs a new addition to continue growing, said John Baumann, president and CEO of Colony Brands.

"MAC cannot effectively serve Monroe in its current facility. MAC family memberships have increased by 40 percent and the audience has more than doubled in the past decade," he said.

In addition, the current facility is not handicapped-accessible. "Not only do we need a new addition, the church also needs further rehabilitation so that the arts are accessible to everyone, including our seniors and those with disabilities," Baumann said.

The new building will contain dedicated space for arts education and additional space for arts education.

The Legacy Campaign's goal is $3.5 million. The campaign has reached $2.6 million or 75 percent of the goal. The public campaign is now in full swing. The plan is to complete the public campaign and begin the final architectural design in the fall.

"This extraordinary support by Colony Brands, its principal owners, the Kubly family, and its CEO, John Baumann, is a clear sign of the importance of this project to Monroe, Green County, and beyond," said Bob Duxstad, president of the Monroe Arts Center's board of directors. "This project will continue the revitalization of Monroe."
