MONROE - A Freeport man convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in his car had his bond forfeited Monday after failing to appear in court for his sentencing.
Equez Collins, 22, pleaded guilty to a Class G felony charge of third-degree sexual assault on Feb. 18.
However, Collins failed to appear at his sentencing hearing on April 13, in violation of the terms of his $1,000 cash bond.
A bench warrant was issued for Collins, who has since remained at large. Collins again failed to appear at Monday's hearing to determine whether his bond should be forfeited.
Reserve Judge David Deininger, standing in for Green County Circuit Judge James Beer, determined that Collins had violated his bond and he should be penalized.
Deininger did note, however, that there is a 30-day window in which Collins can seek to set aside the judge's ruling.
