MONROE - In a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:
• Postponed action on proposed bicycle routes to the downtown Square until July 19, to allow the Monroe Main Street Design Committee to submit information on costs, easements and intersection layout.
• Took no action on a request from downtown businesses for parking spaces to be designated in the downtown crosswalk areas. The issue will be placed on the agenda again in three months.
• Recommended Common Council approve a directive for no police services to be billed for any events that require extra police services.
• Recommended council approve an amendment to a special event permit to increase the area for "Cars on the Square."
• Recommended council approve the sponsorship of the Market on the Square to be changed to the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
• Received the 2009 City of Monroe Police Department Annual Report.
• Recommended council approve special events for Green County Fair Association County Fair and Green County Family YMCA Triathlon.
• Requested that complaints by residents regarding speeding on 16th Avenue be addressed at the July 19 meeting and added to the agenda.
