MONROE — The City of Monroe has informed the Monroe Police Department of a scam involving fraudulent invoices for Conditional Use Permits from the City of Monroe. These usually have been emailed to a person who had applied for actual permits. The email uses the actual City of Monroe logo and does look official. These first were noticed in the last week of October 2025.
The scam email asks the potential victim to reply to the email for details on how to make the payment, usually by some sort of wired payment. The address on the scam email for the City of Monroe includes part of the actual email address for the City of Monroe but has a longer additional part at the end.
Anyone receiving emails from the City of Monroe for something like this should be cautious and verify the sender. Official City of Monroe permits can be obtained via email, but the directions on how to do so have many options and do not immediately direct the applicant to send a payment up front.
Anyone concerned about the validity of communications from the City of Monroe should contact the Monroe City Hall by calling 608-329-2500.
