City of Monroe meetings: June 30, 2008

MONROE - On Monday, June 30, the Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Approved bills for payment from Whitney Tree Service in the amount of $6,120 for tree removal; Green Valley Disposal, $3,481.85 for May recycling; Kelsey Excavating, $33,971.49 for TID 8 18th Avenue sewer; Willett, Hofmann & Associates, Inc., $3,770.05 for 30th Street detention basin; James Thieding Construction, Inc., $137,835 for 30th Street detention basin; Fehr-Graham, $1,703.75 for 16th Avenue water, $5,460.50 for TIF 7 downtown survey, $276.25 for TIF 8 utility, $3,259.25 for 16th Avenue sewer.

• Recommended to City Council to accept bid from and award contract to Rock Solid Concrete in the amount of $33,116.74 for 2008 sidewalk repairs.

• Accepted quote from and authorized hiring of Concrete Raising Company in the amount of $3,670.90 for concrete raising.

• Accepted a quote from and authorized the hiring of Bartel in the amount of $9,973.13 for paving 12th Street into Cedar Green Apartments.

• Authorized Director of Public Works Kelly Finkenbinder to seek bids for a boiler replacement for city hall.

• Recommended to council to approve a change order for the 18th Avenue contract with Kelsey Engineering, Inc. Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Jerry Ellefson said the subbase was found to be unstable during the construction and needed to be reinforced with 700 tons of packable substratum. The change was pre-authorized by Ellefson during the construction.

On Monday, June 30, the Public Safety Committee:

• Recommended to council to approve special events applications for Green County Fair July 16-20, and Monroe Main Street Maxwell Street Days Aug. 1-3.
