MONROE - On Monday, July 14, the Monroe Board of Public Works:
Approved for payment bills in the amount of $621.50 from Fehr-Graham & Associates for TIF #8 utility extension; $3,742.50 from Fehr-Graham for TIF #7 surveying map and schematics; $4,760 from Whitney Tree Service for 2008 city tree removal project.
Recommended to City Council to accept a quote of $4,785 from WK Construction Company, Middleton, for 2008 street reclamation. WK Construction will provide the surface asphalt grinding and tamping services, the city street department will grade the surface and haul away the excess and the city and county will share the cost of paving. Work, scheduled to begin next month, involves 25th Avenue from 13th to 17th streets, 16th Street from 29th Avenue to County K, and 17th Street from 23rd to 28th avenues.
Director of Public Works Kelly Finkenbinder said only one quote was received, but agreed with Alderman Keith Ingwell that it was "not a bad quote." Finkenbinder said the process was the most economical way to extend the life of a street without reconstruction.
Authorized the sale of a 30-year-old lawn mower for $200 for scrap metal. Jerry Ellefson, superintendent of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, said it would have cost $4,000 to rebuild the mower.
