MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Reviewed and approved three permit applications from TDS.

• Approved bill payments in the amounts of $14,566.62 from Sager Fencing, Inc. for fencing at Recreation Park; $20,435 from Badger Swimpools for compliance with Virginia Graeme Baker Act; $825 from Ramaker & Associates for Monroe pool aquatic design for compliance with Virginia Graeme Baker Act; $600 from Wisconsin Department of Commerce for compliance with Virginia Graeme Baker Act; $3,070 from Whitney Tree Service from clearing trees at Recreation Park; $5,028.89 from Whitney Tree service for tree trimming and tree and stump removal; $11,402 from Coplien Painting Inc. for swimming pool painting; $3,074.16 from Green valley Disposal for August recycling; $755,748.08 from E&N Hughes for streetscape work. Councilman Mark Coplien abstained.

• Discussed and recommended to Council to approve six more land acquisitions for 8th/9th Street project. The city has now acquired 30 to 35 properties and has 25 appraisals in process with 8 to 10 more to do, according to Public Works Director Kelly Finkenbinder.

• Discussed and approved a 6-inch by 24-inch sign for Heritage House to be placed in city right of way contingent upon agreement being signed, which will be drafted by City Attorney. All costs of the sign, installation and attorney fees are to be paid by Heritage House.

• Discussed and recommended to Council to approve two final agreements, one regarding the White Building structure that encroaches in the public right of way (GET Realty, LLC) and the other regarding an access ramp that encroaches in the public right of way in the 1100 block of 16th Avenue (S.D. Devco, LLC).

• Accepted quote from Rock Solid Concrete for $9,145.65 for 6th Avenue West sidewalk installation and authorize hiring for work to be done.

• Requested City Engineer Supervisor Al Gerber find another quote for a retaining wall on 6th Avenue West. Only one quote of two sought was received.

• Postponed discussed and action on a billing dispute for mowing at 732 16th Ave. at request of resident.

• Authorized Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Jerry Ellefson to purchase of replacement 25-year-old sand filter rooftop furnace. Low quote of $10,072 from Monroe Heating & Sheet Metal was accepted.

• Authorized to sell 1978 Chevrolet step van. High bid of $1,316 from McCain's Sewer Service, Oregon, was accepted.

• Authorized to sell 1988 International truck with bio solids spreader. High bid of $12,500 from Bytec Resource Management, Inc. was accepted.

• Authorized Park & Recreation Department to sell 28 sets of Christmas decorations used on street posts, because new, smaller posts will not accommodate their size.

Mayor Ron Marsh reopened discussion regarding approval for painting of Lincoln Park Water Tower roof by Green County Historical Society. Committee members rescinded their previous approval, and passed a new motion requiring the society to have specifications written and include pollution insurance coverage.
