MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:
Approved bills in the amounts of $7,981.25 from Whitney Tree Service for tree removal and trimming; $8,693.52 from Rock Solid Concrete for curb and gutter replacement; $260,641.70 from E & N Hughes for the downtown streetscape project; $834 Fehr-Graham and Associates for water system improvement project; $3,062.92 from Green Valley Disposal for June recycling; and $2,7340 and $132,335 from Siemens Water Technologies for water system improvement project.
Authorized Director of Public Works Kelly Finkenbinder to negotiate on right of way encroachment with owner of the White Block building and to proceed with coal vault enclosure work.
Authorized Street Supervisor Tom Boll to seek quotes for a salt storage roof.
Heard from City Engineer Supervisor Al Gerber on explanation of stakes placed along 8th/9th Street project. Stakes with pink ribbons outline the approximate far edge of proposed new sidewalks and those with orange ribbons outline the temporary limited easements needed for grading and other work.
Heard update from Parks Supervisor Paul Klinzing on lighting for Twining Park F-86 airplane. Klinzing has contacted veteran organizations that expressed interest in funding the lighting.
Authorized Klinzing to seek quotes to paint the swimming pool. The pool will be drained this fall to accommodate other work; Klinzing said this would be a good opportunity to paint the pool, which normally must stay partially filled.
Authorized Klinzing to seek quotes to replace three areas of fence in Recreation Park. The item was budgeted for $20,000.
Heard briefly from Mayor Ron Marsh about pending issues regarding recently poured steps on north side of the Square. A special meeting was set for 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, to consider construction changes and legal aspects of the project. Gerber said he would have concept sketches to present at that time. The meeting is open to the public.
