MONROE - Streetscape designs on the inner and outer rings of the downtown Square should be done at the same time rather than in phases.
That was the decision made Monday by the City of Monroe Board of Public Works when it recommended the City Council hire Fehr-Graham & Associates to tie together the projects, at a cost of $5,680 to the Tax Increment Fund No. 7.
Mayor Ron Marsh presented the recommendation to the board, stating that doing the street work on the inner and outer rings around the Square at the same time would reduce patches and cracks, and "wouldn't tie up the downtown twice."
"It will also help when making the presentation when we talk with the county," Marsh said.
Previously, the outer circle along storefronts was scheduled for redesign before the Green County Courthouse lanes in the Downtown and Beyond plan.
Marsh said the idea to do both at the same time came up during Sept. 25 presentations by Mahan Rykiel & Associates, subcontractors with Fehr-Graham hired to do the engineering work for the Square project.
The construction project still would be done one side at a time, Marsh said.
The city's Finance and Taxation Committee approved the recommendation Oct. 13.
