MONROE - The Monroe City Band will offer its final performance of the season at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 29 at the Twining Park Band Shell. Local radio personality Bill Korst will serve as host and emcee for the evening's entertainment. The concert is free and open to the public.
Korst hosts the Big Band Show and performs with the Monday Morning Dixie Band. He is an avid fan of the Big Band era and draws from his extensive collection of recorded music and his library of historical books to add insight to his presentations. Korst also does programs for civic groups on the various aspects of early popular music and jazz.
The program will feature several selections associated with bands and band leaders of the Swing Era, as well as contemporary music inspired by the sounds of the Big Bands. Music by Frank Sinatra, Henry Mancini, Stevie Wonder and the Blues Brothers also finds its way into the mix. The 50-member band is under the direction of Randy Schneeberger, and the group is in its 64th season this year.
