Chopp commissioned as second lieutenant

FORT BENNING, GA - Nicholas M. Chopp, son of Rev. Thomas and Cynthia Chopp, Monroe, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army at Fort Benning, Ga. He was commissioned by Lt. Col. John Best, Battalion Commander of the 3rd Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment - Officer Candidate School.

He selected Signal Corps as his branch, and continues his training at the Signal Basic Officer Leaders Course at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He currently has orders to the 75th Fires Brigade, a Field Artillery unit based in Fort Sill, Okla.

He is married to Hillary Chopp and has a 2-year-old daughter, Olivia.
