DARLINGTON — A man sentenced in January to prison for first-degree child sex assault has been charged again in Lafayette County Circuit Court with a similar crime.

Nicholas Austin Bratzke, 23, Baraboo, was charged Feb. 1 with one Class B felony count of first-degree child sex assault involving sexual contact with a person younger than 13.

Court records indicate a woman witnessed Bratzke “leaning over” a 4-year-old girl with her pants down at a Shullsburg residence last June. The girl later gave investigators more details.

A plea of not guilty was entered in the case at a hearing Feb. 14. Bratzke’s next court date is a scheduling conference May 21.

Bratzke was previously charged in September in Lafayette County with sexually touching a preteen girl, however that case was consolidated with a similar case against him in Grant County.

He pleaded no contest Jan. 7 in Grant County Circuit Court to a Class B felony charge of first-degree child sex assault involving sexual contact with a person younger than 13 and a Class D felony charge of possessing child pornography. A Class C felony charge of child sexual exploitation and four more counts of possessing child pornography were dismissed as part of a plea deal but “read in,” meaning the judge could consider them at sentencing.

Bratzke was sentenced to five years in prison and five years on extended supervision.
