DARLINGTON - A chemical spill in a bank vault sent four people to the hospital for treatment of respiratory ailments Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, according to a release from the Darlington Police Department.
Police, firefighters and medics were dispatched at 10:10 a.m. to Citizens Bank, 207 Wells St., and discovered that an aerosol can containing a static neutralizer for use in electronics had somehow been punctured or released all of its contents in the bank vault sometime during the previous night.
The vault does not have an air exchange system so when bank employees opened the vault, the vapors were released from the vault and breathed in by three employees.
The three employees and another person were taken by Rural Medical Ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.
The Darlington Fire Department stayed on scene until 11:37 a.m. to ventilate the building.
Assisting at the scene were the Southwest Wisconsin Regional Tech Rescue and Haz Mat Team, Lafayette County Emergency Management, Lafayette County Sheriff's Department and Darlington Public Works Department.
